Physical and chemical properties
L,4-bonded glucose baseline-like polymers. A white, odorless substance containing fibrous dots that can be compressed into tablets that can be quickly dispersed in water by their own adhesive action. There are various grades, from dense, free-flowing powders to coarse, fluffy, non-flowing substances. Insoluble in water, dilute acids and almost all organic solvents. Slightly soluble in sodium hydroxide solution and hot casein sodium solution. It is hydrophilic and lipophilic, can swell in water, and is negatively charged, so it can adsorb metal ions and cationic substances in solution.
